Men’s Leather Briefcases – Difference Between Casual & Dress Business Briefcase – Leather Bag Advice[0:00:00]
Hi. I’m Antonio Centeno, the founder of Real Men Real Style. Today, I’m going to be talking about “What’s the difference between a casual and a dress leather bag?” Okay, if you haven’t already, please subscribe to our Youtube channel. By doing that, these videos will come right to you. In addition, if you enjoy this video, if you find it useful, I would appreciate it if you would like it down below and if you want to learn more about Men’s leather bags and Men’s style in general, well make sure to grab our 47 page E-book which we give away for free and there’s an audio, video, just grab it. It’s good.Okay guys, so I received a number of questions. Often time’s men will ask me, “Okay so I’m decked out in a suit, I’m going to be wearing a sports jacket and jeans. What type of bag should I be carrying? What type of leather accessory?” And one, you don’t want to be carrying a backpack so throw that. What we’re talking about here today are quality leather bags and I’ve got two examples I’m going to show you and I’m going to talk about three points and focus on the differences between each bag. Now, both bags are great and in fact, one of them was a gift to me from Brett McKay over at the Art of Manliness and it’s from saddleback leather. The other one is a bag we’re going to be using in a giveaway from Maxwell Scott. Both of these bags, I wish I could keep the Maxwell Scott one because they serve separate needs and they’re very different bags. Both of them amazing quality, I highly recommend both companies but let me talk about what is the difference because many men, they’re trying to make a decision because these bags aren’t cheap.

The Maxwell Scott one that we’re going to be having in the giveaway, 370 pounds which I think $700. The great thing with these bags especially saddlebacks, it’s got a 100 year guarantee so if you think about that and I tell you, I use my saddleback all the time and this Maxwell Scott, just looking at it, having spend some time going over it, I can tell this is an amazing quality bag as well.

In any case, these are big investments and my advice to any man out there looking at this is one, don’t be afraid to make this purchase if you’re going to get, I mean, I get compliments all the time when I carry my items in my bag. It protects my computer and everything that I carry and I feel good when I’m using this but you need to understand what is going to suit your needs.

At this point and the one that I received as a gift was this saddleback. The briefcase, you can see it – they’re larger briefcase. Not the one that turns into a backpack, although this one can turn into a backpack but this is the simple briefcase. It holds a 17 inch laptop which is why I love it. It’s very simple. There are two compartments on there. There’s a compartment for the computer and then there’s a compartment right in front which I can hold my cords and a few other small things but really, it’s a very simple bag and I love it because it’s simple.

So that probably goes to what makes this bag a casual bag. There are going to be three things. It’s going to be the build. It’s going to be the leather and it’s going to be the design. So when I’m talking about the build, this is a very rugged build. When you look at these saddlebacks and you visit that company, look at that website, you’re going to see that saddleback is all about – they’ve got pictures of crocodiles biting into their bags, not being able to tear it apart or it being underwater with guys doing shark diving and these are casual bags that are very, very rugged. So that right there makes it in the casual camp.

The other thing is the leather. Their leather is more raw and not as refined as a leather I see over at Maxwell Scott. Maxwell Scott uses Italian leather. It’s much thinner but that makes sense because what they’re going for is that rugged casual look. And finally, the design of the saddleback which I talked about, it’s very simple. They went with all simplicity. It’s about making something that will stand up to the test of time that you can throw around, not that you should be throwing this thing around but you can and it’s going to be perfectly fine. This is really and for my needs, I live in rural Wisconsin. I usually carry this when I’m going up to – I’ve got a truck stop that I go to a lot of times to simply clear my mind, sit, not be disturbed for 6 hours and write an article or think about where I’m going to be taking my company.

For me, when I’m wearing a sweater and a pair of jeans, this is a perfect bag. Even when I’m wearing a sports jacket and a pair of odd trousers, the bag is 100% leather so it works. Now, when I’m wearing a suit, this bag will not work because it’s too casual. Also, the color, that’s another thing really not goes with the leather. This is a dark brown so it’ll work with the chestnut I believe is their color. It works but it’s not as dressy as this Maxwell Scott.

So this is the Maxwell Scott and here’s the back. Here’s the side and here’s the front. This thing smells really good.

I wish I could keep this bag but like I said, we’re going to be giving it away so hopefully you’re on an email list and if not, we’ll be having tons of other giveaways whenever you decide to join it. That bag right there, it just screams to me that this is something I could wear with a sports jacket and a pair of odd trousers or even a pair of raw denim but the color and the way the leather is finished instantly yells refined. And that’s another thing when you look at the build.

The build is much more refined in terms of they thought about where everything needs to be so this was going to hold more. It’s got more pockets. It’s designed for more the business traveler. It’s designed also to send a message. If you’re going to be signing a multi thousand or multi million dollar deal and you put the briefcase on there in which you’re pulling out the paper, you don’t want it to be something that it looks like… you don’t want it to be something that’s falling apart. You want to look like the kind of person that they can trust with this deal and this type of bag is going to send that signal.

Its black color, again, is perfectly conservative. You could go with a very dark brown. I wouldn’t recommend the light brown for most business use so the black, the dark brown or the black are going to be perfect for business use. But again, this suit’s going to be for someone that’s wearing a suit for somebody that’s wearing a sport jacket with odd trousers and navy blazer.

The last thing is the design so a lot of thought went into this design. Again it’s a very complex design. If I open it up, there’s all types of pockets here. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven and then there’s the sleeve for the laptop so very, very sharp design. Jealous that you guys are getting it and little things like this little bit, this little metal rivets they have right here so that when you put it down or you slide it, it’s not going to tear up the leather. Little things like that set this bag apart.

Okay, so hopefully those visuals helped. Again, look at the build, look at the leather, and look at the design and depending on how those go is going to tell you whether or not it’s a casual or dressy bag. And what you need, well it depends on your profession and your professional needs. Okay, this has been Antonio Centeno with Real Men Real Style. Hopefully you enjoyed the video and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye-bye.
